The Asian Productivity Organization (APO) has been promoting Green Productivity (GP) in the Asian region since 1994. GP helps increase productivity and enhance environmental protection simultaneously across key sectors of society. Two major aspect where GP focuses on is resource conservation/minimization of waste through the 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and E-Waste Management.

This year’s participants who attended these GP projects had the opportunity to observe how 3R and E-Waste Management applications may lead to new business opportunities and greater competitiveness in the private sector. They also had the chance to understand the mechanisms of the 3R/E-Waste Management through advanced environmental and recycling technologies.

Mr. Reylito A. H. Elbo, Chief Strategist and Productivity Promoter from Kairos Management Technologies, gave a short presentation on the basic foundation of 3R, Japan’s legislative framework, and study visits on some Japanese companies. He also presented a comparative analysis between the 3R implementation in Japan and the similar systems done in the Philippines.

The second presenter, Mr. Antonio Arnel S. Daria, Branch Manager, HMR Envirocycle, provided an enlightening presentation about the current status of E-Wastes (electronic wastes) in Asia. He shared the latest trends in Eurupe’s RoHS and REACH program, Taiwan’s Recycling program, and provided a virtual tour of the companies in Taiwan practicing E-waste management.

A total of 24 participants were present in the echo session, composed of DAP staff, and guests/representatives from private sector organizations – Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines (SWAPP), Gentwofifteen Foundation (GDFI), and Ayala Foundation.
