An echo session on “Green Productivity for Efficient and Effective Waste and Energy Management” was conducted by the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) through its APO Liaison Office last August 31, 2012 in DAP, Pasig City.

APO Grantees invited to serve as resource speakers were Ms. Anabel H. Garcia, Environmental Consultant, Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines (SWAPP), and Ms. Ma. Elizabeth F. A total of 20 participants joined the session, some representing the Department of Labor and Employment- National Wages and Productivity Commission (DOLE-NWPC), Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc. (PCEPSD), and the majority from DAP.

Some of the topics that were discussed in the activity are Green Productivity (GP) Concepts & Tools, GP Application, Formulation of GP Implementation Plan, and learning/insights from the Trainer’s Training on GP. The resource speakers also shared their knowledge on Energy Auditing and Waste Management System Analysis, 5S, Solid Waste Management System (SWMS), and the trends of SWMS in Malaysia and in Thailand.

In the session evaluation, the attendees suggested that a similar but a more comprehensive activity could be organized next time. Nonetheless, the participants were satisfied with the outcome of the session.

Among the inspiring messages shared by one of the speakers is from Ms. Garcia, “Beyond pollution prevention, we need a holistic, integrated strategy to enable sustainable development in the country”.
